Key Stage 5 course launching January 2026!!

KS5 Curriculum Principles

Academic Challenge and Confidence

We aim to inspire a genuine enjoyment of mathematical thinking through challenge and achievement. Students are encouraged to engage deeply with complex ideas, developing confidence through persistence, problem-solving, and intellectual curiosity.

Connections and Mathematical Depth

Students will explore the rich interconnections between algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics, developing a coherent understanding of mathematics as a unified subject. Depth of study and rigorous reasoning are central to our approach, preparing students for the analytical demands of higher education.

Mastery and Strong Foundations

Our teaching ensures that all students secure the essential core knowledge and techniques needed for success at A Level and beyond. Emphasis is placed on precision, fluency, and the ability to apply concepts flexibly to unfamiliar problems.

Examination Excellence and University Preparation

Students are thoroughly prepared for assessment through consistent exposure to challenging questions, structured revision, and high-level problem-solving. Our approach develops the skills and mindset required for outstanding A Level performance and smooth progression to mathematically demanding university courses.

A Level Mathematics

This course prepares students for the Pure Mathematics element of the Pearson EDEXCEL A Level Mathematics (Specification A) examination. It focuses on developing strong analytical skills, algebraic fluency, and a deep understanding of core mathematical principles that underpin both A Level and University level study.

2 Year Course

A2 Examination: June 2027

Optional AS Examination: May/June 2026

Duration: 20 months

A comprehensive route covering the full A Level Pure Mathematics course in depth. Students should have achieved at least a Grade 6 at GCSE/iGCSE (or equivalent) before starting. The programme develops conceptual understanding, precision, and resilience in tackling complex problems, ensuring students are fully prepared for A Level examinations and further mathematical study.

A Level (Pure Maths)

The Pearson Edexcel A Level Mathematics (Specification A) is followed, focusing exclusively on the Pure Mathematics content. The course develops advanced skills in algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and vectors, alongside mathematical reasoning and proof.

The A Level Pure Maths course provides thorough preparation for the final examination, emphasising depth of understanding, logical thinking, and confident problem-solving — essential foundations for success in further mathematical study and university entry.

2 Year A Level Journey

First Year Key Topics (AS Maths)

  1. Proof – understanding and constructing mathematical arguments.
  2. Algebra and Functions – manipulation of expressions, solving equations, and using function notation.
  3. Coordinate Geometry – equations of straight lines and curves, gradients, and intersections.
  4. Sequences and Series – arithmetic and geometric progressions, including the use of sigma notation.
  5. Trigonometry – trigonometric identities, equations, and applications.
  6. Exponentials and Logarithms – laws of indices, natural logarithms, and solving exponential equations.
  7. Differentiation – finding derivatives, gradients, tangents, and simple optimisation.
  8. Integration – finding areas under curves and basic applications.
  9. Vectors – representing and manipulating vectors in two and three dimensions.
  10. Mathematical Modelling and Problem Solving – applying mathematical methods to interpret and solve real problems.

Second Year Key Topics (A2 Maths)

  1. Algebraic Methods – manipulating rational expressions, partial fractions, and solving equations.
  2. Functions and Graphs – transformations, composite and inverse functions, and modelling relationships.
  3. Sequences and Series – advanced use of sigma notation and binomial expansion.
  4. Trigonometry – further identities, equations, and the use of radians.
  5. Differentiation – applying differentiation to exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; using second derivatives.
  6. Integration – techniques including substitution, by parts, and use of partial fractions.
  7. Numerical Methods – iterative methods and approximating solutions to equations.

How will the lessons be structured?

These courses will be webinar style. This means I am the only one talking, there will be no cameras or microphones on except mine. The students will be able to chat to me via the chat box system, but not with each other.

Why two lessons a week?

Many home-education and tuition programmes offer just one Maths lesson each week — but we believe that two 60 minute lessons a week provides the ideal balance for effective learning.

Our sessions take place on consecutive days (Thursday and Friday), giving students the opportunity to build and deepen their understanding across the two lessons while topics are still fresh. The following five-day gap before the next pair of sessions allows valuable time for practice and consolidation, helping new ideas to become secure and long-term knowledge.

This rhythm supports consistent progress, builds confidence, and keeps learning structured yet manageable within a home-education schedule.

Workbooks and Optional Homework Tasks

Lesson notes to complete during each session will be provided, along with a topic booklet containing key points and additional practice questions. Optional weekly homework tasks will be set through the Dr Frost Learning platform.

Topic Assessments

There will be end of topic assessments, which will take place during lessons. Andy will mark these and provide written feedback. These assessments are an important part of the learning process, helping students check their understanding, identify areas for improvement, and strengthen long-term retention of key concepts.

Affordable Pricing and Money Back Guarantee

We believe that education should be accessible to everyone, which is why we offer our Mathmaticks courses at affordable prices. A full refund will be issued after the first 2 sessions if you do not wish to continue. All you need to do is email Andy before the third session at the start of week 2 and you will receive a full refund.
